Ek Din Achanak

Ek Din Achanak in Hindi can be loosely translated as, "One day, without warning." This movie beautifully captures the vagaries of life in a typical middle-class home in a nondescript city in India. The subject of the movie is a retired professor who walks out on a rainy day and disappears without any reasons. The story unfolds as the family reacts to this disappearance first with shock, then sorrow, resignation and finally acceptance. This story is told with the lyrical background of rain and the pace is leisurely. No explanations are given, nor any analysis performed. The director tries to keep the movie focused on the central theme without degenerating the plot to a thriller.

Yugant

Yugant shows how the disintegration of the marital relationship is part of a greater disintegration all around us of ecology and values. An unhappy couple, the husband, an advertising agency director, and the wife, a classical dancer, return to the fishing village where they spent their honeymoon seventeen years ago. Their past life is shown in a series of flash-backs, while the sea, polluted by conspicuous consumerism, symbolizes the current state of their relationship.

Uttara

Dir Budhadb; Bengali with English subtitles
Balaram and Nimai, two railway guards find pleasure in friendly wrestling during their time-offs. When Balaram marries and brings Uttara to his house, the relationship between the two wrestlers takes a new turn. The friendly wrestling turns out to be serious one. The intensity of jealousy turns them so blind that they never notice the unpleasant happenings around them and do not react to them.
